New Riders' Guide
- Shore Line East (SLE) trains run seven days a week - including holidays, making stops at New London*, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, Guilford, Branford, and in New Haven at State Street Station and Union Station, with limited express service to/from Bridgeport and Stamford. Station locations, including street addresses, directions to the stations and maps are available here.
* New London is not served by all SLE trains. Please see timetable for details. - One-way tickets are sold on board all SLE trains and at ticket windows in New Haven's Union Station, Old Saybrook and New London. Please have the correct fare with you; checks and credit cards are not accepted for ticket purchase on board trains. - Monthly SLE tickets will be honored on select Amtrak trains from New London to New Haven’s Union Station. Regularly scheduled Amtrak trains also provide service from New London.
- Free parking is available at all SLE train stations except New London and New Haven’s Union Station. No parking is available at New Haven’s State Street Station.
- All trains and stations are accessible for persons with disabilities*.
* Westbrook has a lift to assist with handicapped access. Assistance is required, and passengers must notify SLE by calling 1-800-ALL-RIDE a minimum of 24 hours in advance.
Connections to New Haven Line Trains
- SLE passengers can transfer at Union Station to New Haven Line trains for travel between New Haven and New York City. On weekdays, Shore Line Express service, that doesn't require changing trains in New Haven, is available to and from Bridgeport and Stamford.
- Passengers may also board SLE trains at State Street Station and transfer at Union Station for connecting service.
- Passengers transferring to a New Haven Line train will need a separate New Haven Line ticket for that portion of their trip. New Haven Line tickets may be purchased on-board without paying the surcharge. Just show the conductor your Shore Line East ticket when making your purchase.
- Passengers returning to Shore Line East on the New Haven Line should purchase their New Haven Line tickets before boarding the train to avoid paying an additional surcharge.
- UniRail, a combined Shore Line East and New Haven Line ticket, is available for daily (one-way), weekly or monthly travel. To learn more, click here.
- Select New Haven Line morning eastbound trains terminate at State Street Station while select evening westbound trains originate from State Street Station.

New Haven Area Commuter Connection Shuttles and Local Bus Service
- Commuter Connection shuttles and local bus service meet SLE trains for travel to and from downtown and Sargent Drive/Long Wharf Drive area work sites.
- Morning CTTRANSIT Commuter Connection service operates from State Street Station only (not from Union Station).
- Afternoon and evening Commuter Connection service brings passengers to Union Station only (not to State Street Station).
- Local CTTRANSIT J Route service is available from Union Station.
- State Street Station is convenient to many CTTRANSIT local bus stops, and is located just two blocks from the New Haven Green.
- Additional weekday service from New Haven to Shore Line East stations is provided by the S-Route bus operated by DATTCO. If you are a Shore Line East monthly ticket holder your valid ticket allows you to ride this bus route for free, giving you additional travel options during the day. This bus departs from the corner of Church and Crown on the New Haven Green, and some midday trips also stop at New Haven's Union Station. For additional information, please see the S-Route Schedule.
- A free weekday shuttle connects rail passengers using Union Station to additional off-site parking locations. All shuttle trips will extend to the New Haven Green, creating easy connections to all other CTTRANSIT local bus routes in New Haven. Additionally, the shuttle will now operate throughout the day. - The Union Station Shuttle is a free weekday shuttle from 6:00 AM - 10:05 PM. Please visit CTTRANSIT for specific details.
