What types of tickets are available?
Monthly, monthly plus bus, Uni-Rail (combined SLE/New Haven Line ticket) and ten-trip tickets are available. For details on the types of tickets available and how to purchase them, click here.
Where do I purchase my SLE ticket?
One-way tickets are sold on board trains and are available at the New London, Old Saybrook and New Haven ticket windows and are valid for 90 days. Please have the correct fare with you; checks and credit cards are not accepted for ticket purchase on board trains.
Multi-ride tickets are sold at ticket windows in New Haven's Union Station, Old Saybrook and New London. Monthly tickets are also available by mail and phone by calling 1-800-ALL-RIDE.

Do I need to go into the station to buy a ticket for a connecting New Haven Line train?
Passengers transferring to a New Haven Line train may buy their New Haven Line ticket on-board without paying the surcharge. Just show the conductor your Shore Line East ticket when making your purchase.
Passengers returning to Shore Line East on the New Haven Line should purchase their New Haven Line tickets before boarding the train to avoid paying an additional surcharge.
Where can I get my SLE Monthly ticket if I take the train to State Street Station?
Monthly and Monthly Plus tickets are only sold at New Haven's Union Station, Old Saybrook and New London train stations, by mail or by phone at 1-800-ALL-RIDE.
How can I pay for my ticket?
Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted at the New London, Old Saybrook and New Haven ticket offices. Checks and credit cards are recommended for ticket purchases by mail. Cash only is accepted for on-board ticket purchases.
Is my SLE ticket valid on regular Amtrak trains?
Amtrak now cross honors Shore Line East tickets on select Amtrak trains, which are noted on the SLE timetable. A valid SLE Monthly, UniRail, UniTicket Ten-Trip or Weekly ticket must be presented to ride these select Amtrak trains. Passengers without one of the valid multi-ride tickets will be charged the Amtrak full one-way fare. Please note that Amtrak trains do not make all SLE station stops.
What does it cost to bring children with me?
Up to four children ages 11 and under may travel for free with a Shore Line East fare paying adult weekdays and weekends. Additional children will be charged the adult fare. Shore Line East "Child Fare Policy" does not apply to Amtrak - SLE options.
If you're continuing your trip on a Metro-North New Haven Line train, for up to four children ages
5-11 traveling with a paying adult, the fare is 75 cents each. Any additional children ages 5-11 will be charged half the adult fare. Children under 5 years of age travel free.
