What is Shore Line East?
Shore Line East (SLE) is a commuter rail service providing fast and easy access between New London and New Haven and beyond, Monday through Friday
Now there is Shore Line Express service to and from Bridgeport and Stamford. It's a reliable commuter service with a remarkable on-time performance record.

How often does SLE service run in the morning?
Shore Line East has seven trains running from the shoreline to New Haven's State Street Station and Union Station every weekday morning. There are also two early morning trains that travel nonstop from New Haven's Union Station to Old Saybrook, and one nonstop train to New London. See the timetable for details.

In the morning, when I arrive at Union Station in New Haven, what happens then?
If you are continuing on the New Haven Line, it's usually as simple as getting off the Shore Line East train, walking across the platform and getting on the waiting New Haven Line train.

How often does SLE service run in the afternoon and evening?
There are eight afternoon and evening trains from New Haven to the shoreline. There is also a CTTransit bus that leaves New Haven and stops near all shoreline stations except New London (this bus connects with New Haven Line trains arriving at Union Station). Plus, there are two afternoon trains that travel nonstop from Old Saybrook and three that travel nonstop from New London to New Haven's Union Station. See the timetable for details.

What do I do if something unforeseen arises — such as working late or a family emergency?

Do SLE trains run on weekends?
Shore Line East service does not operate on Saturdays, Sundays, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

Where do I catch SLE trains?
The train stops in New London, Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, Guilford, Branford and New Haven's State Street Station and Union Station. Directions to the stations are available here or call 1-800-ALL-RIDE or (203) 777-7433.

Where can I get a copy of the complete schedule of SLE trains?
You can see the timetable here. A printed timetable is posted at all Shore Line East train stations, at many area merchants or you may call 1-800-ALL-RIDE or (203) 777-7433 to receive one by mail.

What if I leave something behind on the train?
To inquire about lost belongings left on the trains or at the stations, please call Amtrak at (203) 773-6176.

Are the trains handicapped accessible?
Stations are handicapped accessible and train personnel will assist in boarding/deboarding. Persons with disabilities are encouraged to call (800) ALL-RIDE or (203) 777-7433 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in advance if assistance is needed.

Are there rest rooms on the trains?
Lavatory facilities are available on trains as well at the New London, Old Saybrook and Union Station in New Haven.

Are pets allowed?
Trained guide dogs assisting the blind or hearing impaired are allowed to ride the Shore Line East so long as they are leashed. All other pets must be crated in order to ride the Shore Line East.

Is there a place to store luggage on the train?
Only items that can be safely carried and stored by the passenger are permitted on board the trains. Items which can cause inconvenience or safety hazards to other passengers are not permitted. There is no checked baggage on Shore Line East trains.

Can I bring a bicycle onto the train?
Passengers are permitted to bring bicycles on board Shore Line East trains between New London and New Haven only. Passengers are required to safely carry their bicycle on and off the trains and safely store their bicycle on board with front tire removed. Bicycle Groups of 5 or more are required to provide one week prior notification to CDOT Rail Operations at (203) 789-6955."

Will Amtrak's Acela service stop at State Street Station in New Haven?
Amtrak trains will not stop at the new State Street Station. Acela Service will continue to depart out of New Haven's Union Station only.

Where can I get my SLE Monthly ticket if I take the train to the new State Street Station?
Monthly and Monthly Plus tickets are sold at New Haven's Union Station, Old Saybrook and New London train stations, by mail or by phone at 1-800-ALL-RIDE.
