Connecting Trains
If I want to travel from the shoreline to Bridgeport, Stamford or Grand Central Terminal in New York, how exactly does it work?
From everywhere between New London and Branford, you would take a Shore Line East train to New Haven where you would get off, walk across the platform (in most cases) and board the waiting New Haven Line train for travel to your final destination. Shore Line East train conductors always know where your connecting New Haven Line train will be waiting, so feel free to ask.
Do I need to go into the station to buy a ticket for a connecting New Haven Line train?
Commuters continuing on past New Haven only need to board the waiting New Haven Line train and purchase their tickets on board the train. (Notify the conductor that you're connecting from a Shore Line East train and the surcharge will be waived).
In the morning, if my SLE train is late getting to New Haven will the connecting train wait?
Yes. New Haven Line trains will wait up to five minutes for Shore Line East trains arriving late at New Haven's Union Station.
What if my New Haven Line train is late getting back to New Haven in the afternoon or evening? Will my connecting Shore Line East train wait?
Yes. Shore Line East trains wait a reasonable amount of time for late arriving New Haven Line trains.
